Remember when I said the hardest part of planning so far had been deciding on a venue? HA! Was I in for some more surprises or what? I have now began my serious research for wedding vendors such as photographers, florists, a DJ, the whole nine yards. While it has been fun, it has also been stressful and a just a little overwhelming!
Picking a florist was a pretty easy task. In fact, I didn’t do any searching. My aunt and her mother are doing all of my flowers, and I am very excited to be able to work with my family. They have both had so many great ideas so far for decorating that I can’t wait to see where it all goes.
When it came to photographers and a DJ I didn’t really have any idea where to start. I know many locals who are photographers on the side, but I wanted to look into all of my options, and boy did I. I talked to fourteen photographers in one day, rather through email, text, or a little bit of both. I wrote the pricing and information down from every photographer into my planning booklet, so to all of my friends who are also planning weddings, shoot me an email and maybe I can save you some time. The cheapest I have found so far (a family friend) was $500 and the most expensive came in with a starting price of $3,350. I have honestly been pretty picky so far on this subject. I am trying to do things as cheap as possible but my pictures are something that I will keep forever, and I want them to be something that I am proud of. I have been leaning towards photographers that work with printing companies and offer prints in their price bundles. The CD’s and flash drives are great and give you the opportunity to print as many photos as you want, so I intend on hiring someone who offers both prints and digital copies. I am meeting with a photographer next week that I’m almost positive I will choose. I haven’t made a final decision yet but I am down to two choices instead of fourteen, so that’s a plus.
I don’t know anything about finding a DJ. Luckily my mother does and has a close friend that is a DJ. He was the first person I asked, and I don’t plan on looking any further. Whenever I start looking into invitations I would like to put a spot on the RSVP for people to all request a song for the night, so we can have a little bit of something for everyone.
The next big step in this wedding journey will be searching for the dress! This is obviously most exciting, and the part I’ve dreamed of since I was very young. I’ve spent years watching Say Yes to the Dress and sneaking little peeks at racks of bridal gowns when I was supposed to be prom shopping. After I find the most perfect wedding gown we will all get to look for bridesmaid dresses which I am also looking forward to. Once we have the bridesmaid dresses picked out it will be easier to finish up the planing and matching the colors.
I have been very lucky to have so many talented and beyond helpful friends and family to fill some of these big rolls for Shayne and I. It is crazy to see all of this start to form and come together. We are really getting married! On my way to work the other day one of my favorite songs came on the radio, and as I started to poorly sing along it made me think about Shayne and our wedding day. I literally started to cry, and continued to do so (and laughed at myself a little) for over half of my drive to work because my heart was just filled with joy and happiness. Anyone who knows me knows how much of an emotional disaster I am anyways, so this isn’t really out of the norm. How in the world did I find someone who is willing to put up with all of this for the rest of our lives? There really must be someone for everyone!
